Hi!

My name is Penny Burner and Karl William Unfried was my great-grandfather. It's fun to see pictures of him. I have some of the same pictures. His wife, Eileen, recently passed away on Sept. 16 2012 at 97 years old. I wish I could have known more about my great-grandfather. But it is fun to see how far back the family history goes.

I almost feel obligated to say hi 'cause I've looked at your build about a million times for ideas and techniques. I'm about 3/4 done with my woody and although I don't have the skill level that you have demonstrated, I think mine is coming along rather well.
Thanks for the advise!

Love your site Denny! Did you use a particular set of plans for your teardrop or did you come up with your own?

Denny,
I am always amazed at your website....its great! Here is an update, I spent this year (2011) at Bonneville as a Car Inspector and a Course Marshall and had a great time (yeh, I would rather be racing, but am saving up for a major engine rebuild). If you need a shot of my car go to Bonneville Calendar for 2012 and I am on the cover (yep, may not go fast, but looks great). I just turned 10K on the speedo since the first of the year and now drive it daily, even have a duct tape top that withstood storms all across Nebraska and Wyoming on the way to the Salt Flats and it is my daily driver through all of this 20 degree winter weather. Love your Cobra! I enjoy building cars and am now ready for building my teardrop to pull behind my '27. I am going to use your chassis with the Cub Mondernaire design body. I appreciate your willingness to show us your construction photos, and they are "key" to building a solid foundation for a long lasting, easy to pull trailer. Keep up the good work!!!! Thanks and God Bless You and Your Family!

My grandmother was Cora Unfred. Daughter of Frederich Luther Unfred. Looking for more information on Frederich father and mother. Any help would be appreciated. My mother had written that Balona Belle Clayton (wife) family was Samuel Clayton and Cynthia Ackley. I have recently seen that others say this is Luthers parents. Which is correct?

Last time I wrote was in 2006, well we are now in 2011, so thought I would give you an update. I did run my car in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and hopefully again this year in 2011. I run my Boss 302 in the D/STR class and am a member of the 5 time SCTA Champs, the San Diego Roadster Club. We've not broken any record yet, but alot of engine parts in going for the 213mph record. Car is dialed in, engine builder (myself) isn't, but I am getting there. Currently, I am putting it back on the street with a 5.0L Ford crate motor I found at Pic-A-Part and when I finish will begin a Tear Drop to go on the back and will be attending some rod runs this summer if everything works out OK. I am a long hauler, so maybe I can get to meet some of you guys at a run or camping out in a California State Park or a KOA across the Southwest. If any of you guys go to Bonneville, look for the San Diego Roadster pits, and look for my orange roadster.

This is truly great site...thank you. I'm sure I'll return many times with many questions. Matter of fact, one stands out right this very minute...who exactly is the manufacturer of the extruded aluminum "hurricane hinges"? Thanks again, Alan

Hi Alan, you should be able to find several suppliers of the hinge using Google. Some own their own molds and have it extruded.

Hi Denny!

I am an UNFRED (minus the "i";) out here in Oregon and am trying to find some connections to the UNFRIED family, or at least how we are related. I am sure that we are somehow. I am a descendent of Friedrich Unfred who came over from Baden Wurrtenburg. He was an immigrant and we are descendants of his. There are many Unfred's that I have found who are concentrated in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Oregon.
I am just curious as to how where the name change happened and how I may be connected with many of you out east! I am sure that there is a direct connection as it is a quite unique last name. Very excited to see such a great site made up like this. Thank you for all of your great hard work. I am on facebook as well, as Kristina Unfred. You are welcome to befriend me if you would like! Take care and great to know of you and all of the Unfried families that are out there! I used to believe there was only my little family of Unfreds!!! Kudos and blessings to you!

Hi Denny,

I just came a cross your tear site and went through each picture and read each discription. Thank you, I've picked up a few ideas. Job well done. I can only hope I can find most the materials here and do half the job you did. I've started my 1st tear and I'm ready for the decking on the frame. What gauge alum. skin did you use?

Where are you to on your 2nd tear? I'd love to see pics.

Hello Dennis, My great, great grandfather, Petrus Mathias Unfried and his family came to Texas around 1870 from Reil, Germany, a small village on the Mosel river. His son Otto William Unfried settled in Ft Worth where my dad and our family grew up. The rest of this branch stayed in Limestone county Texas. Not sure how we might be connected by I thought I would send this info. Just ran across your web site today and was very impressed with what you created.
